Do we need business intelligence (BI) tools to be successful?

Get an expert's take on whether you need business intelligence (BI) tools to be successful and learn about low cost business intelligence including cheap and open source BI tools.

What could be the advantages and disadvantages of performing business intelligence (BI) tasks without tools?
I'm not sure what you mean by without BI tools. It's really a matter of which tools you will use. Most platforms you buy today (assuming you do not also mean to do BI without a platform) come with some basic tools for users for little to not much extra cost. At the least, these can be used. There are also open source tools available for BI. You can certainly do BI on the cheap, but not without tools.

hi @William, your blog is very informative for business intelligence users. A business intelligence system can be a valuable asset to a company's sales force because it provides access to up-to-the-minute reports that identify sales trends, product improvements or additions, current customer preferences and unexplored markets.
