Talking Data podcast: Survey reveals big data trends

A new survey reveals industry hot topics, including a lack of skills and leadership in the industry, two big data trends that are likely to continue.

This week on Talking Data, TechTarget editors Ed Burns and Jack Vaughan discuss IDG's 2014 Enterprise Big Data survey, which looked at big data trends like the ongoing shortage of qualified data scientists, a lack of industry-wide agreement on big data principles and general data priorities for businesses in the year ahead.

The survey delivered few major surprises, which in itself is a bit of a surprise. The fact that few respondents consider any single vendor or trade association as a significant thought leader points to the fact that big data is still a term that means different things to different people, even as businesses look to data systems to solve more of their business problems.
