A new year is rapidly approaching, when we traditionally assess our progress in meeting goals and set new ones. One resolution that undoubtedly will still be on the 2013 list for many organizations is to improve the relationship between IT professionals and the business users who depend on them for technology capabilities. In the feature story in the December issue of our BI Trends + Strategies e-zine, BeyeNETWORK Expert Channel contributor Claudia Imhoff examines the gap between what the business wants and what IT provides.
We couldn’t close out 2012 without offering some predictions for next year on what has been this year’s hottest topic: “big data.” BeyeNETWORK expert Barry Devlin gazes into the future and says sound data management processes and efforts to mix pools of unstructured information with traditional transaction data will take center stage as organizations seek to uncover the business value in their big data environments.
Another technology that has drawn attention this year is social media analytics. SearchBusinessAnalytics.com contributor Nicholas Evelson reports on what the existing tools can do and the limitations that might have to wait until another year to be resolved.
And now, a farewell. This 12th issue of BI Trends + Strategies will be the last. But the advice and analysis you’ve come to expect will find a place in a new TechTarget e-zine, Business Information, launching in February. Know what you’d like to see? Email us your ideas. Until then, start drafting those 2013 goals.
