Just as a year draws to a close during which regulatory compliance drove a great deal of IT spending, Cognos Inc. has unveiled a slew of enhancements to its corporate performance management tools.
The Ottawa BI and performance management software vendor is extending its Planning Series 7 version 3. Available immediately, the new functionality includes component-based planning for a modular approach to financial planning. Users can begin where business pain is greatest and extend across the organization, Cognos said. A distributed administration function allows users to assign access and responsibility across a security framework. Additionally, the planning interface has been improved to offer a consistent experience across all of Cognos BI and performance management tools.
Available in January, Controller 2.3 will help solve global financial consolidation problems and provide an enterprise view of performance. The release is the first Cognos-branded offering from its acquisition of Frango AB in August.
The third leg of enterprise planning initiative from Cognos is its Plan-to-Perform Blueprints, a series of data and process model best practices available to customers at no cost. Five blueprints will be available in January: strategic financial planning and forecasting; sales planning and forecasting; expense planning and control; headcount and compensation planning; and capital expenditure planning.
